Signs and Symptoms That Signal the Need for a Root Canal

Figuring out when you need a root canal, like figuring out when you need a filling, can be very difficult during the early stages of the problem.  This is because many of the signs are those that can only be spotted by a trained dentist.  Often, physical symptoms such as pain do not start until the problem is more advanced.  Because of this, seeing a dentist regularly is extremely important.  However, if you don’t get to a dentist and spot the problem before it is escalated, the following are some signs and symptoms to look out for that may signal the need for a root canal.

1) The tooth is broken, cracked, or chipped

2) There is redness and swelling of the gums around a particular tooth

3) A particular tooth is sensitive to heat, cold, and sweetness

4) A particular tooth hurts with the pressure of a touch or bite.

5) There is discoloration on the surface of the tooth
